A perfect quote for the day. We began our day at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for Anthony's CT Scan. Since this was supposed to have contrast so that the physician's can look at the structure of his ear canals, he had to have an I.V. Anthony was not a very happy camper during this initial part of the procedure. He began to scream and cry and fight both myself and the male nurse off. He was so upset that he threw up all over the bed, but luckily he missed me! The nurse got a stick in the left arm, but it did not hold so we had to try again. This time, we brought in another nurse to assist in holding him down. Once he realized that he was not going to be able to fight he just kinda laid back and waited for the pain. The second stick was an immediate success! THANK GOODNESS! It was actually kind of funny, because he looked at me with a look that said "That's it?, That was not so bad after all". Once the I.V. was complete, it was time to go into the "PIRATES ROOM". The entire room was painted to look like a pirate ship, to include the C.T. scanner. They even had a T.V. with Toy Story on to help keep him entertained. The tech strapped him down to the table and I explained to him that they were going to be taking pictures of his head. He gave me the thumbs up and actually smiled for the camera!! What a ham. After all was said and done, he got to have a dinner treat at McDonald's and dessert at Dairy Queen. Thank you Children's for making what was in essence a horrible experience, into a wonderful one where we all (Anthony, Bis Sis and myself) felt cared about and were not just another patient. On to step two next week!
