Well, we are almost at a month at DePaul and I couldn't be happier. Some of you may know this and some may not, but the entire English language is based upon 6 core sounds called "Ling Sounds". They are [m], [ah], [oo], [ee], [sh] and [s]. We have been working on these sounds since we were implanted three years ago. The problem that we ran into was the fact that we could not get into our Audiologist to get re-mapping on our implant done, which is just basically re-programming based upon the child's acclamation to the sounds that they are hearing. This should be done on a very regular basis. Well, our problem is that we could not get the mapping done due to the amount of children that needed therapy. With only one person doing the therapy, we kind of got pushed to the side a lot. So here we are now, at DePaul, and Anthony has all the ling sounds down pat with a good flow to his speech attempts that has never been there before. And the best part is that Anthony comes to me to practice and is so excited to learn that it really does give me a huge lump in my throat. I love my children with all my heart and question everyday if I am making the right decisions for them, and then there are days like yesterday, where it is my "sign" if you will, that I'm really doing okay for them.
